How do I choose the right ointment for rosacea?

Acne rosacea is a condition that most commonly affects people who are between the ages of 30 and 55. To date, the exact causes of rosacea onset are unknown. It is said that genetic factors may influence the onset of the disease, so the propensity to contract the condition may be hereditary. An allergic reaction is also one of the causes being considered by researchers. Patients struggling with illnesses such as high blood pressure and those with stomach problems also complain of rosacea. Individuals at particular risk of developing rosacea are those with vascular skin. There are many ways to combat this condition. One of them is the use of creams and ointments. Ointment for rosacea is a very helpful solution.

Symptoms of rosacea

In the early stages of the disease, persistent erythema appears on the skin. The cheeks are reddened under the influence of strong emotions, after eating spicy or hot food, after a warm bath. At this stage, it is easy to overlook and underestimate the first symptoms of the disease. The bursting of small blood vessels that appear on the cheeks and around the nose should alert us. At this stage, it is advisable to visit a dermatologist for diagnosis and treatment. Later, the persistent erythema is joined by purulent red pimples - this is the next stage of the disease, the papulopustular one, which requires constant medical attention. Topical treatment and rosacea ointments are worthwhile at this stage.

Is ointment for rosacea a good solution?

The answer to the question above is obvious. Of course it is. However, it is worth knowing a few important points. First of all, it all depends on what stage of the disease you are in. For some rosacea sufferers, an over-the-counter topical ointment applied to the skin is the best solution.

Which ingredients should this type of rosacea ointment contain? Here they are:

  • Vitamin E - is characterised by the fact that it has anti-inflammatory properties, helping with erythema and other irritations. Vitamin E also prevents further discolouration of the skin, has a regenerating effect on the skin, and helps to heal lesions caused by acne,
  • Rosewood oil - stimulates the skin tissues in a very good way, while at the same time ensuring their smoothness and elasticity thanks to the linalool content. The oil also has regenerative and anti-wrinkle properties. It soothes irritations well. It also has antibacterial and antiviral effects.
  • Azelaic acid - this is an ingredient characterised by excellent anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, reduces imperfections and lesions on the skin, erythema and redness, inhibits the growth of bacteria causing acne, reduces skin oiliness by regulating the sebaceous glands and, thanks to it, discolouration is reduced;
  • Betaine - this is an ingredient that has a supple and moisturising effect on the skin, using ointments with this ingredient the skin is much better conditioned, soothed, irritations caused by the development of rosacea and redness are reduced.

These ingredients can be found in a set in one product. This is the Acnerose from Verdelove brand - rosacea ointment for the morning. It gently cares for problematic skin, addressing its needs. It has a moisturising and soothing effect to reduce flaking and irritation. In addition, it strengthens the hydrolipidic barrier of the skin, thus protecting the capillaries from dilating. It also helps to calm redness.

Ichthammol ointment for rosacea

A separate type of ointment that combats the annoyance discussed above is ichthyol ointment for rosacea (we recommend our ichthyol night paste here!). It most often comes in the form and 10 or 15 per cent concentration of ichthyol, which is characterised by being a very thick liquid. Ichthammol ointment for rosacea comes in two types:

1. Ammonii bituminosulfonatis unguentum,
2. Unguentum contra congelation

The first mentioned ichthyol ointment for rosacea is based on lanolin and yellow petroleum jelly. Ichthammol is 10 % of its content. The second ointment also contains lanolin and petroleum jelly, although it has 5% more ichthyol, 15%. It also has a 5% concentration of camphor. This ointment is also recommended by pharmacists for the treatment of any type of frostbite that has developed on the body.

Ichthammol has an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal effect, which reduces the development of imperfections. It astringents strongly, so inflammations heal more quickly. It also has an anti-seborrhoeic effect and gently exfoliates and perfectly softens the skin.

Acnerose dermocosmetics for rosacea

An excellent complement to rosacea ointment will also be care with specialised dermocosmetics. It is worth choosing those from the Acnerose rosacea kit. It have a soothing effect on the skin, which is important when dealing with blood vessel problems in the course of rosacea. The smoothing, elasticising and soothing potential is brought about by lanolin, bisabolol, panthenol, coconut oil, vitamin E, betaine and extracts of liquorice, bindweed and ruscus spinosus contained in these cosmetics. In addition to its soothing properties, the Acnerose series also focuses on regulating sebaceous glands and reducing imperfections. This is handled by ingredients such as ichthyol, azelaic acid, zinc oxide, green tea extract, gluconolactone or lactobionic acid. These substances also help to heal blemishes and reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation, so that the condition and appearance of skin with rosacea does not deteriorate. The Acnerose kit contains four products that complement its action: a cleanser, a morning ointment, a day cream and a night paste. They have a purifying, soothing, protective and regenerating effect, so the Acnerose kit provides rosacea skin with comprehensive care.

The management of rosacea should not be based solely on the use of the medications described above. In addition to treatment with these specifics, it is equally important to follow a specific diet for rosacea. It is best to consult a specialist who will be able to give you a range of relevant information. The choice of ointment for rosacea should also be a well-considered decision and should be consulted with a doctor.

1. What ointments should I use for rosacea when it is getting severe?
In the advanced stages of rosacea, over-the-counter ointments may not be enough. It is then worth seeing a dermatologist who will prescribe an ointment with an antibiotic, usually erythromycin, tetracycline or clindamycin. It is always advisable to use a specialised dermocosmetic treatment, such as Acnerose rosacea kit, as a complement to the treatment.

2. Will rosacea ointment manage rosacea symptoms?
Ointments for rosacea are recommended at the beginning of the treatment, when the acne has not yet taken an aggravated form. Such ointments can be obtained without a prescription, as the concentrations of the active ingredients in them are not high and will not otherwise harm the body. If rosacea becomes more severe, treatment should be carried out under the supervision of a dermatologist and prescription medication should be used.

3. How long should antibiotic ointments be used for rosacea?
Antibiotic therapy can never last too long. In the case of rosacea, we can use antibiotic ointment for a maximum of three months, after which time the treatment should be interrupted.
